CAMPING

Camp Loma features spacious, wooded camping areas suitable for everything from tents to vans and trucks to trailers. With roughly 170 acres, there’s plenty of space. Since the camp straddles both sides of Highland Way, you’re free to pick a spot in the center of all the action, or one in the sticks if you like it quiet.

Established as a 4-H youth camp in the early 1900s, Camp Loma still serves that purpose in addition to being a rental facility. While rustic, it’s quite nice and has seen some welcome improvements in the last couple of years. Our camp host, Brittany Newton, lives on-site and is overseeing the modernization. She, her mother, and her grandmother all attended Camp Loma as children, and she aims to preserve Camp Loma’s unique character while upgrading the property just enough.

FOOD AND FACILITIES

Plan on bringing and cooking your own food for each meal, as well as any snacks and exercise potions you may want on the rides. You needn’t bring most of your cooking equipment, however, as Camp Loma boasts a massive commercial kitchen with a 12-burner gas stove, several ovens, a microwave, refrigerators, a walk-in, and dishwashing sinks, not to mention a barbecue. There are some communal pots and pans available, but you probably wanna bring your own. We’re also highly encouraging reusable cups, plates, dishes, utensils, etc. We want EB to be a low-impact event and we have to pack out all the trash ourselves, which is all the better if we create less of it.

If you need to grab any food or supplies, the Summit Store is an excellent outpost on the way from Highway 17 toward camp. The full-service grocery carries packaged and prepared foods, produce, beer and booze, marinated meats and BBQables, chips, dips, donuts, hotdogs…you name it—it’s the one-stop-shop for nearby mountain denizens who’d rather not drive into town. Not the cheapest grocery on the planet, but well-stocked and run by really nice people.

FACILITIES/AMENITIES

Aside from the aforementioned kitchen, Camp Loma is equipped with the following amenities:
